Bogotá D.C., August 1, 2024. The Electoral Observation and Integrity Network – IE Network) expresses its deep concern about the post-election crisis in Venezuela. In this context, we urgently call on all involved parties to ensure transparency, respect for human rights, and the safety of the civilian population.
It is imperative that the Venezuelan electoral process be conducted with the utmost transparency. We request that all reported irregularities be thoroughly and objectively investigated by the competent authorities, with the participation of impartial electoral observers. Citizens’ trust in the electoral system is fundamental to democratic stability and legitimacy.
The OIE Network urges Venezuelan authorities to respect and protect the human rights of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation. Repression and violence are unacceptable and must cease immediately. We call on the international community to closely monitor the situation and offer support to ensure respect for fundamental rights.
In the midst of this crisis, it is essential to ensure the safety and protection of the civilian population. We urge security forces to act with restraint and in strict compliance with international norms on the use of force.
The organizations comprising this Network call on all relevant parties to engage in dialogue to find democratic and peaceful solutions to the current crisis. Reconciliation is essential for Venezuela’s future and requires the effort and will of all political and social actors. The OIE Network reaffirms its commitment to promoting free, competitive, fair, and transparent elections, as well as defending human rights and the safety of all citizens.
